believe it or not, this is meat ravioli...
It is finally here. WOW! I haven't been this excited about a lens since I first tried a 300 f/2.8. The thing about wide angle lenses is that it is very difficult to create effective isolation between a subject in the foreground and the background. That blur, and the quality of blur known as bokeh, is difficult to achieve, since wide angle lenses inherently have a large depth of field. But Nikon has gone ahead and said, "SCREW PHYSICS!", and created the masterpiece that is this lens. I made plans the second I got off from work with my friend Amanda to meet up so I could test my new baby out. Needless to say, I'm stunned. Wider angle lenses let in more light, and at 24 mm, slower shutter speeds can be used without noticeable camera shake. Combine that with the amazing maximum aperture, and you have a setup that can practically see in the dark. What impressed me the most, however, was how sharp the lens was at f/1.4 in the center. Perhaps this is because I'm still using a DX sensor, and when I upgrade to full frame I'll start experiencing some more user error. At f/1.4, the plane of focus is wafer thin, and I was stunned to see eyelashes were still sharp on subjects. That means the autofocus, which isn't the fastest i've used, is amazingly accurate with what I want. It is a privilege to use this lens...i'm going to have a lot of fun with it when school starts. The posted photos, as per usual, don't do the real thing justice because these photos are down sized, so the colors and resolution suck. Pity...
